  • Spot Your Friends - Spotify Platform Application

Tired of your music? Get a Spotify playlist with the tracks your Facebook friends play and enjoy.

The introduction says it all. When you're out of luck for new music you should give this application a go.

By utilizing the Facebook Graph API the Spot Your Friends app searches through your friends' feeds and finds what music they've been listening to, sorts it descending in time and by popularity and presents you with one hundred fresh songs in a generated Spotify playlist. Sexy? Sexy!

Spot Your Friends also features an all-time-high toplist for the most played tracks - for all users of the application (which you, of course, also can get as a playlist). The community can't be wrong, right?

We conceptualized, designed and built this application for the new Spotify Application platform and it will soon be available through the App Finder in your Spotify desktop application (submitted December 9th 2011).

  • Vattenfall - King of the Slope

Energy for winter sports. Now in your mobile and on the web.

Vattenfall is an official sponsor of the International Ski Federation and now we're taking their passion for skiing to the next level with an app and an online community that makes your skiing more social.

The application has three major touch points; tracking your runs, challenging your friends and of course competing to be the King of the Slope.

We were hired to take this all one step further by working alongside the application development, designing and building an online comparison platform, somewhat similar to the well-known and liked Nike+ and RunKeeper.

By using Facebook Connect and setting up an account the online platform gives you the ability to share and compare (utilizing statistics, icons and graphs) your runs with a wide audience - everyone from your Facebook friends, to other users in your area. Or why not compare your last runs with those of famous skier Jon Olsson?

The platform also features such things as an interactive map for adding new ski-spots, top lists and ranking, reading more about the application and fetching a widget to embed on your site or blog visualizing how of an awesome skier you are.

    A photographer's portfolio with impact.

Our dear bearded friend Mathias takes awesome pictures. Like, seriously awesome. But he's no web-guy. At all. So, how can you resist helping an old friend when you get to work with beautiful material? We can't.

This is a photographers portfolio of 2011 - fullscreen images, smart and polite loading, keyboard navigation for the desktop, swipe-/touch-navigation for iOS and tons of stunning work.

We designed and crafted this with one mantra - to make a really arty production. And we think we succeeded.

  • Experiment - Online webcam-controlled RC-car

Ever wanted to control an rc-car over the internet? Well, of course you have!

By mixing and combining a lot of great technologies we built this rc-car which you remotly can control over the world-wide-web. Okey, let's get a bit techy on you now.

The foundation is a classic rc-car (Ferrari of course) with digital steering and speed that we got from our local toy-dealer. We re-built the controller to not accept steering and speed-commands from the levers, but from an interface-board attached to the controller. The interface board is then, through USB, connected to our server. On the server we run a controller-application we built using Ruby and libraries like Ruby FFI and LibUSB. On top of this we have a Ruby Sinatra application and API for controlling the actual car. So, now we got a car that we can remotly control over the internet by sending requests to our just built GET-API.

But why stop there? How about visuals? I don't know about you, but we find it quite hard to steer a car without eye-sight. With that said, we had to integrate a webcam. Biggest challenge - latency! How do we avoid having the webcam streaming pictures too late, causing us to steer in the wrong moment? Well, first we mounted a classic chatroulette-type-of-guy-webcam to the car, attaching it to a wireless-usb-hub and then having the server receive the images and broadcasting it to our Ruby application. Massive fail! It was like drunk-driving - totally out of control.

We had another brainstorming session and ended up with attaching an Android-phone (HTC Desire) to the car. The phone run an application which broadcasts an image-stream to our local 5GHz wifi-network. This is then picked up by our Sinatra application which displays the stream as well as let you talk to car by the API.

Now we've got an rc-car, controlled - steering and speed - over the internet, with images delivered almost in real-time. Pretty sweet. But let's push it a bit more, shall we? Why not make the steering a bit more intuitive? Yep. If you access the Sinatra application from your iPhone or iPad you got a whole other experience - fullscreen image-stream as on the desktop, but the car is controlled by tilting your phone forward/backward/left/right.

To sum it all up - as of today I can sit at home in my sofa and steer an rc-car in our office with an high-quality image-stream just by tilting my iPhone in different directions.

Awesome, techy and exciting. But meaningless.

    But fun.

  • Experiment - Office RFID Facebook check-ins

How about automatically checking in to Facebook Places as you enter the office or your home? Now you can.

When Facebook Places was released, the hype was massive. As to be expected. We wanted to take the regular check-in-process a bit further by making it a permanent feature in the studio.

All staff was equipped with an RFID-card (pretty much like a credit-card, but without loads of cash in it) to put in their wallets. These cards all have unique ids, by which they can be recognized. We then mounted an USB RFID-reader with good range in the entrance to our space. To control things a small Ruby application was made, which registers so called connections to the RFID-reader (built using libraries like Ruby FFI and LibUSB). This means, that every day we could see when people came and left. Like a modern version of the old industrial clocking-in-card type-of-thing. Pretty scary stuff!

Well, that wasn't really the purpose. With the coming and leaving part up and running we developed the application further. We created a Facebook Application and had all people in the studio grant it "offline-access", meaning that the application at any time is allowed to make a post to the users stream. With that in place it was just for us to keep track of the connections in the database and broadcast different messages to Facebook at different times.

So, when arriving to the studio in the morning, I just walk in to my desk and I'm automatically checked-in to Facebook Places and the Yours office, by a post in my feed. Sweet.

But how can we take it to the next level? Well, why not have us all choose a track from Spotify and have it queued to our office-playlist (broadcasting through AirTunes/AirFoil) when entering the office? Ok, done, by using our LibSpotify C-API we built before. But that's another project. And story.

The best cure for a cold monday morning? Walking in the studio, automatically getting checked-in to Facebook Places, making a coffee and your all-time favorite song (like this one) starts playing. Just nice.

Who do you want to bring to the future holiday of your dreams?

The campaign is challenging people to think about what their dream holiday would look like. Who would you bring? Where would you go? When would you leave?

By doing this we wanted to create a magnificent and delightful mental-picture of how it is to be a senior citizen - and by setting that state of mind we wished for people to be more engaged in their coming retirement and the elated savings plans.

Built as a Facebook Application for easy access to your dear ones, the application lets you concretize your dreams - invite the friend you want to go with, choose a destination and a year by spinning the globe, and last by not least upload a picture of you and your friend to see how you will look when you're taking off on the holiday of your dreams.

The result is a postcard of you and your friend - aged and wrinkled - on the travel destination of your dreams. Of course you have the ability to share your postcard with your subscribers. And to download it.

B-Reel took care of the visual design. We made it all happen by handling all parts of the technical production (including the 3D-globe, built with drawTriangles).

The campaign is highlighting three communities - The Mesh Print Club, screen printers extraordinaire from Rotterdam, the Dalston FARM:shop, the London-based urban farming visionaries and Drop Coffee, genius baristas from Stockholm. Focusing on what’s important - the produced events - imagery and videos play a central role in this intriguing showcase.

  • Studio

Yours is an up-and-coming international digital production - well, we like to call it innovation - studio.

The studio is privately held, located in Stockholm, Sweden and founded in early 2010 by four prominent names in the Swedish digital industry.

We conceptualize, design and build storybased technology-savvy campaigns, mobile solutions, semantic pages, installations and pretty much everything else related to digital and social media.

We've been crafting with a wide range of digital technologies and have come across more or less every API out there worth to mention - from 3D and physics to social media integration and data transformation. With that said, we possess extensive knowledge in almost every technology and framework out there worth to mention.

This means that no matter what you want to craft within digital production we're your goto-guy. Awesome? Yes.

Some even claim that we're a production powerhouse. They might just be right.

    Services

Being kids of the digital era - brought up playing videogames and lurking around IRC - we tend to do a bit of everything. Though our core focus is, and always will be, digital technology and design.
